Chairman’s Message:

2012 is a very special year for Scalby Fair.  Not only is it the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, but it is also the year that the Fair celebrates its 35th  anniversary.  In order to celebrate these two events together we have moved the traditional date of the Fair day forward to Saturday 2nd June, to coincide with the Spring and Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

As well as Fair day itself there is a week long programme of events, varied and packed with interest for all ages, continuing through the week commencing Monday 28th May, every evening, up to Fair Day itself on Saturday the 2nd June, and finishing with the weekend Flower Festival and Celebration Brunch at St Laurence’s church. I am hoping you will support us by coming along to as many of the events as you can.  We are hoping for one of the best fairs we have ever had in this special  year.
The theme for this year is: “Diamonds are Forever”.  This theme should  provide plenty of scope for all our stallholders and fancy dress participants. There will be 50 stalls, with prizes for the best dressed stall. There is a  childrens’ Fancy Dress parade which takes place at 3pm on Fair Day, judged by the Mayor – there is no age limit, and there are prizes to be won!

We have also produced a commemorative brochure to celebrate the occasion. As well as articles on Scalby village and the Fair,  there is a trail to follow explaining points of interest  and history of the village.

Please browse our  Website (www.scalbyfair.co.uk) for  full programme details, histories and to see which local causes we have supported, with donations totaling in excess of £30,000 over the years. Scalby Fair is non-profit making, run entirely by volunteers, and exists to foster a community spirit,  to encourage participation in many varied activities and events,  and to support local business.

A warm invitation is extended to all:  local residents, friends, and visitors alike.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Best wishes.
Roger
